Carpet styles
I am looking to replace the carpet in my 72 K5.
Last winter my hard top leaked and the entire interior got sloppy soggy wet. Had to rip out the old kit (which was molded and fine loop.) But when I order samples from ACC, their loop looks super clumpy and thick and scattered. The stuff I pulled out of the truck was not factory, but it was definitely well molded and was a more neatly organized and less clumpy loop pattern than ACC’s 80-20. Does anyone have an idea where I can source a molded carpet that has less of a clumpy loop? (And more subtle varioation in fiber tone or some added speck to make it more visually pleasing would be nice as well.) Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Carpet styles
I don’t know anything about ACC quality, but if price is the measuring stick they must be good. I looked up the price for my Jimmy and it came back at $566! No doubt you can find discounted pricing but holy cow! I just replaced my carpet with a kit from Stock Interiors. Final delivered price for a 4 piece kit with standard backing was less than $400. When I installed mine I also installed Noico sound deadener (just as effective as Dynamat but half the cost - always looking to save some coin!)
Looking at the picture of the texture of the product on ACC’s website, it appears identical to Stock Interiors. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Carpet styles
I'm not sure about the difference in loops between manufacturers but ACC also offers cut pile and Essex if you want to ditch the loop all together.

I understand that ACC has a great product. But here’s an example of ACC carpet loop, vs another sample (but not from a manufacturer that molds it to the vehicle.) See how the other loop fiber is a bit tighter, less clumpy, and more varied in tone (which creates a more visually appealing look.)
Thoughts..? I’m not looking for more opinions on how great ACC product is. I get that. I was just hoping to source something a little different in terms of look. But I also don’t plan on getting carpet that is not molded specifically to the contours of the truck. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Carpet styles
We're not all cheerleading for ACC.... The second response gave you an alternative manufacturer with some install pics. Third response gave you alternative options besides 80/20 loop. If you don't like the loop you can go cut pile. If you want to keep the loop but tighter than what the ACC samples are try some samples from somewhere else..... There appears to be only 4 options for molded carpet: 80/20 loop, nylon loop, cut pile, lush cut pile(essex).

Re: Carpet styles
Try a local upholstery shop They can put together the same product with your choice of material.

Re: Carpet styles
Classic Fans: What color carpet is that in your Blazer? Also your dash pad - is that parchment or sandlewood?
I'm piecing together a parchment interior in my about-to-be hugger orange K5. I had to buy a saddle dash pad... |

Re: Carpet styles
That makes sense. They dont remake them in Sandalwood or Parchment anymore.

Re: Carpet styles
This one’s olive drab. Matches the assumed OEM steering column. I don’t know what the OEM dash color was or could have been.

Re: Carpet styles
What about about trim parts? Maybe theirs is less "clumpy"? I have ACC and got it from Rock Auto. They were by far the cheapest. Summit Racing wouldn't even price match them. $360.79 with the mass backing is the most you will pay. I think it's around $240-250 without the backing.

Re: Carpet styles
Don't remember what I paid to do the carpet in my Jeepster but went with something not so "knobby" and have received many nice compliments (Jeepster won Best in Show in Moab last year for the 50th anniversary-maybe the carpet was the reason!). I just took it to a shop and had them show me some options and make to fit.
Some pics for what it is worth......
