What LSx front accessories fit without modification??
I'm just now realizing there's not a lot of room for accessories under the hood of the 1948 Chevy 3100 pickup.
What 5.3/6.0/6.2 etc fits with all necessary accessories? I would like to run a 2007-2013 truck 5.3 with 6L80. I think they will have everything needed (AC + PS). And hopefully the accessories will fit as-is under the hood and between the fenders?? The gen 5 motors (2014-newer?) seem to be lacking a power steering pump, and a lot of guys have been relocating the AC compressor as well? Why is that? Looks like the relocated accessories won't fit in the 3100 with the available aftermarket brackets? Thanks fellas |

I'm doing an S10 swap, but my 5.3 had the AC compressor on the lower passengers side. I would have had to notch the frame to keep it. At the time, I wasn't comfortable with this...and it has windows. Maybe someday.

Re: What LSx front accessories fit without modification??
I'm mostly familiar with Gen 3 and 4 engines and not Gen 5 and I don't think you'll find a factory accessory drive that fits your truck without any mods. The truck accessories put the AC low where it hits the frame, the f-body and gto accessories have the alternator low on the drivers side and it hits the frame, the corvette accessories will have an alternator that hits the inner fender unless you recess your firewall and move the engine back.
What you could do is go with the truck power steering and alternator bracket and then swap the ac bracket for something like Holley where the alternator is up high on the passenger side. That combo would get you close but you still might have some inner fender clearance issues for the power steering pulley and the AC lines. I have a 1950 so its very similar and that was what I found. I ended up going with the Holley accessory drive on corvette spacing for the alternator and PS and I don't have AC.

There’s a company called ict billet they make some really good and inexpensive Ls brackets to move the power steering pump and ac compressor up high to clear the frame I have them on my 58 truck you might look them up

This set by Holley is nice. I will probably go this route. I have not confirmed that it will work yet but from my initial measurements it looks like it will.
Here is a link.. https://www.holley.com/products/ls_p...s/parts/20-185 Marc

Re: What LSx front accessories fit without modification??
This is the truck accessories on a 5.3L. The AC is low on the passenger side- I made a knock-off of the mount that Vintage Air sells for the Sanden compressor (I did have to grind one of the ears off the Sanden compressor to get it to clear the frame rail, but it was the bigger Sanden compressor) I think the compressor mount they use comes from Alan Grove.
This engine is back a little further into the firewall than most and it's a GMC too, which gives a little more distance to the radiator from the front of the motor. |

Thanks.
Here's a photo of the passenger side of the engine.. [IMG][/IMG] Some detail of the compressor.............. From the front...... Here's an image of the accessory drive before I started bolting on the sheetmetal. Note that the later Trailblazer water pump and idler pulley relocation kit are only necessary if you use a non-truck intake like I did [IMG][/IMG] The headers are homemade from 304 mandrel bends. Here's the drivers side on the workbench Here they are on the engine before they were coated black |
