Nut insert
I have a 1950 Chevy and I am missing the nuts in the door to hold on the lower hing door panel. Anyone have an idea to replace these? Thanks.

How big is the hole? You may be able to put a "nutsert" in there.
Or simply weld a nut made from a piece of 1/8" strip of metal plug welded in. Brian

I just repaired three lower hole in my drivers door with Time-Serts 3/8-24 . They hold super strong repair .Stainless steel or steel inserts. Check the Bay or Amazon. The best for this repair.If nuts are all gone a flat piece of steel with three nuts welded on to the plate, Line up with hinge holes and plug weld new plate on all set

This is for the access panel that covers the hing so it doesn't have to support weight, but I don't want nuts to spin and not be able to remove panel. I saw some that clamp on as you tighten but thought they could spin.

The nutserts are basically like a "pop-rivet" and it WILL hold no problem.

I have never owned the tool and have installed them for years. I have have is a nut that is larger than the bolt that goes in the nutsert. I Put that nut in the vice and with a hacksaw cut some lines on the face of the nut. I put the nutsert in place, put the bolt in the nutsert with the nut I cut the groves in the place of a washer. I hold the nut with the groves from turning with a wrench and turn the bolt with a ratchet pulling the nutsert into place. When it's in place simply unscrew the bolt out of the nutsert removing the nut with the groves, wham, installed nutsert.

nutserts are great.....we use at work all the time.....we got the poprivet style tool in a big kit they came with

I went out and took a few photos, and the first one, I swiped off the net with a nutsert in place as you would them. The pre-made nuts I got somewhere, forget where. But the ones I made have worked for MANY years. LOL MANY
