66 Chevy Glove Box Emblem Dimensions to 3D print
I know this is a lot to ask, but does anyone have the exact dimensions of the glove box emblem for the 66? Or do you have one out that you'd take a photo of and provide the exact dimensions?
My son's truck is 3 hours away getting an LS and OD installed, and I didn't think to pull the glove box door. I want to create a 3D rendering of that emblem but with custom text instead. This truck has been passed down from my father to my 17 y/o. I thought this would be a nice area to do a dedication of the truck to my dad. Not sure what the text will say yet, but I will get something added. That's the good thing with 3D renderings. I can try all kinds of stuff beforehand. I'm happy to share the 3D files back with the board so others can download them and print things themselves. I have a 3D printer and a laser cutter/engraver, so I am not sure of the final material yet. May go with plexi and do an LED feeding into it for accent. Any help would be appreciated. It will help occupy my mind for the next few months until we get the truck back ready for final assembly. If I get this mastered, I'll probably do something similar with the side fender emblems. |

I'll tell ya, we went through this probably a year ago? With one of the forum members. He had a one off really cool emblem, we gave him dimensions etc. Nothing ever came of it, very discouraging. I can't find the thread now though.

Re: 66 Chevy Glove Box Emblem Dimensions to 3D print
I searched every way I could find to get the dimensions inside this forum and outside. Sorry they didn't follow through. I will have the dimensions eventually. I just thought it would give me a few months jump on the project while I am waiting to get the truck back. I assure you I will follow up. I always pay help forward. It's the way I was raised. Even if it doesn't pan out here, I will share what I create. I have gotten plenty of ideas from things posted here, so it is worth my time and effort to share it back.
If you come across that old post, let me know. I'd appreciate it. |

I would just look in the forsale section for a used one. That way you have one in your hand to do the 3D model. Another option is using a picture and a single measurement to do the vector trace of the outline. You only need a picture of half of the trim piece. and the width. This reduces the distortion from the picture and allows a good trace of the ends.

Just remember that the backside is beveled along the edges too.

I see that bevel in the photo. Thanks for pointing it out, though. I could have missed it. That will make the 3D print a bit more interesting.

Stupid question...how does the emblem attach to the glove box door? Never tried to remove mine.

Re: 66 Chevy Glove Box Emblem Dimensions to 3D print
There are pins on the back that push into friction nuts of some kind. My son's doesn't have the holes. I just looked at recent photos. When I make the 3D designs, I will leave the pins off the back, but they could be added easily. I was going to mount it with a thin double-sided adhesive anyway. If I go with a clear plexiglass or acrylic for the laser engraving, I will see if I can use a thin coat of clear caulk.
