Where is the all electric AC system?
Why has the aftermarket not come up with an all electric AC system for hot rods? the systems exists. every Prius sold has one.
If it only requires a 200 amp alternator and a spare battery I am all in. So who is going to become a millionaire and start building kits? |

Re: Where is the all electric AC system?
looked for this very thing recently and came up with nothing but 120vac RV style units..
and I believe the hybrid's a/c systems run on the high voltage, not 12vdc.. must be a fundamental reason why, but it still sucks.. btw, looking at banners in your shop in another thread, any relation to the late Carl Haas or Gene Haas?

Re: Where is the all electric AC system?
Vintage Air has an article on their website concerning this very thing. They say it's not effective "yet". Whether they mean cost of otherwise is unknown to me.

Everyone likes Vintage Air:
https://www.vintageair.com/tech-topi...or-my-hot-rod/ "...several shortcomings with electric compressors when compared with conventional engine-driven compressors for use in hot rods and muscle cars. These include, but are not limited to, inadequate performance, excessive electrical demand, a lack of net aesthetic advantage, and cost..."

Re: Where is the all electric AC system?
Hmm. Let me look up how the electric AC works on our Chevy Volt. Interior volume is certainly bigger than my 65 C10, and it has no problem cooling when on electric-only.

Re: Where is the all electric AC system?
I would be interested in a system like this too. Years ago I thought about using a 120V dog kennel ac unit and running it off a inverter after seeing one in use at groomer but never pursued it.
