Question on rear fender lip - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I can't find a pic really to show what i'm talking about, but i'll try to describe it. When one of our trucks is dropped, something about the rear fenderwell lips make the azz end look like its saggin or something. Has anyone ever modded the body to eliminate this?

I think what your talking about is the shape of the rear wheel opening. It doesn't match the shape of the front opening very well. I'm not sure what trucks you are looking at, but look at some with 20's on them. The larger wheel fills the front opening much better than 15's or even 17's. It really makes a big difference in how the body lines flow....

True. Whatever you do, DONT try to match the front to the rear. THAT looks like butt.

Take a leaf spring and cut it off to about 14", then mount it on the spring pack on the bottom, that is if you still have your springs on top of the axle. The 1/2 to 5/8 inch at the axle is worth a 3/4" lift at the tailgate of the bed. That way your pickup does not look like it is hunting racoons in the trees and draggin it's a-z like a dog with worms. You can put a level on the bedrail and tell if you are draggin butt. Ypu could get your springs re-arched also.

i have an idea that, if you guys think could be pulled off, i might try. what if, first of all, i got a set of patch panels that are made for the front fender lips around the wheel openings. then, use the driver side panel for the passenger side rear, and vice versa. that way, i could have the same shape as the front on the rear, and have a mod that is pretty rare, if not the only one.

does that make any sense?

LOL, that's what I was saying not to do. I've seen that and it looks worse.

you posted while i was typing my message. just hadn't had time to state that yet. i probably wouldn't have ever cut up my virgin sheetmetal anyway. i was mostly rambling with this post

Anything that you cut and weld will start to rust immediately from the inside out. So the more that you don't cut and weld the better.
