1968 gmc swb

I'm considering buying this truck. Haven't seen it in person yet. 6 cyl 3spd, 4/6 drop, runs good.

Depends on your plans with it. I think is worth 3k tops. At a price of 6k you may as well search around for one in great shape for 10-13 because the amount of work needed and money needed is surely a lot.
By the looks it likely has some issues.
If buying without seeing get some better pics. I bought a showroom condition one once off of pics and once I got it - it wasn't anything close to what he said. The guy sure took some deceiving pics. Was even a chopped longbed. He swore it wasn't. Lotsa liars out there.

Re: 1968 gmc swb

I went to look at it this weekend. I would have bought it for $4k, maybe a little more but seller was firm at $5k. Bunch of little reasons. PROS: It's a factory short box and original paint (mostly), 15x8 steel wheels, chrome sport bumpers (although front is a chevy one), nice tires, pretty straight, good bed floor, came with set of lowering spindles and correct fender. CONS: Drum brakes, 6 cyl 3 spd, leaf rear, A little too rusty in the usual places, some bondo in the right rear, hacked up lowering job in the rear (broken spring pearches and goofy helper springs), 67 passenger fender, needs windshield, cut doors.

Smart move. Guys a fool for not taking the 4K. I bet he calls you. Take your time. Too many downsides to that one.

Re: 1968 gmc swb

Just FYI all 68 had drum brakes, they can be converted to power. GMC’s were all leaf spring unless special ordered with coils. Does the frame have the same vin # as the one on the title and door post tag ? So what your saying is it has some rust in the usual places. Also that passenger 67 fender, if it’s rust free is worth a bit of change. I would say enough to pay for power booster to convert brakes....I would give 5K for it all day if the above is correct. Don’t find many of those around anymore. Heck it even has duel exhaust.

Yes I'm aware of the unique features of a 68 GMC. If it was a 71 Chevy I'd be all over it at $5k (discs and coils). I thought the duals were a plus until I got under it. The 'Y' was a recent addition after the rear axle so more like a 'dual tip'. The rust went all the way to the cab mounts and into the floor of the cab by the kick panels which I considered too rusty. The top of the cab seemed OK tho. Good point on the 67 fender! I really wanted to buy it to keep me from spending 3x as much on a 61 Bel Air I found but it looks like I'm buying a full size car.
