Gound straps

I need some info on ground straps. My bat is grounded to alternator. And the only ground strap I can find goes from frame to body? How many should I have were do the go and were can I get them?

Thanks

there should be a ground strap from the rear of the right head to the firewall also. I would guess somewhere like NAPA should have some.

you should(not factory, but should) have ground from battery to block and from that point run a strap to the frame, and also a strap from frame or block to the cab. i'd do alot more than the tiny 1/4" strap the factory used, and grab a large braided pair of 1" wide ground straps to use, the parts store or tractor supply should carry them.

Can you ground the block the frame and the cab all off the battery? And then use no ground straps?

Thanks

yeah but thats alot of wire off the battery. i usually ground to one of the bolts on the front lower part of the engine right by the fuel pump and run the battery cable there with a ground strap to frame then i run a strap from one of the accessory holes on the back of a head to the cab down low.

Well I was thinking My bat. has both type of posts I use the side post now it is grounded to the back of the alt. Then I could use the top post right over the cab by the bat and one down to the frame? Should that work?

Factory its big wire to alternator bracket. Pig tail to core suport and strap from passengerside head to fire wall. I always add a stright from battery to Fire wall on my trucks. It has taken car of a low volting steror amp on two different trucks. That ground strap seems to not be so conductive after being in the elements for 15 years or so.

If I were going for a show look I would do like was recomended. Get two long cables and tie them together. Run up under the battery tray. come accross the frame near the fuel pump. ground it in that Area. Just becareful. one of those bolts goes though into the pushrod tube for the pump. Don't round to that one. If you wanted you could ground to the motor mount bolts where it goes into the block right next to the starter. Big fat ground strap off that head to the fire wall is still the best hid way on that end and I always like to drop a 8 gage strap to the frame.

When I upgraded my alternator bracket to chrome, I didn't want the battery ground cable sitting up there. So, I moved it to the block in front of the fuel pump. As Grim said, one of the holes goes into the fuel pump rod but there are other holes to use. Other than this, that's all the additional grounding I've done. I still have the braided strap at the passenger head to firewall and the ground at the core from battery.

Here's the hole that goes into the fuel pump rod.

Yes. I think it's a 3/8" x 16. One about 1/2" to 3/4" is plenty long enough.
