K series shifter boots

My K20 has no boots on the floor shifters. I'd like to remedy this, but I do not know where to start or what parts I need.

I need boots for the transfer case shifter and the transmission shifter. Not necessarily looking for factory originals, but something that resembles the original set up would be great.

Re: K series shifter boots

Thanks for the guidance so far. Found the needed transmission boot and retainer ring. I am not convinced I have found a suitable transfer case boot. The transfer case shift lever is practically laying on the transmission hump when in 2wd.

No one re-pops the t/f case one that i know of. One comes up on e-bay but big $$$. The trans never had one from the factory.

Sorry to hi jack this, but please clarify no boot on the shifter? Do you mean it's just open?
Thanks

Re: K series shifter boots

From the experts on here and my dad's 66 3/4t 4sp bought new in 66 had no trans boot. there is a seal that goes between the top of the trans and the trans tunnel.

Re: K series shifter boots

Strange but true. No factory boot on the four speed. Foam seal only between floor and trans.

Re: K series shifter boots

I have the floor shift boot on my tk but it's not factory and the 67-72 t/f case boot is not the same as 60-66. Don't know why they haven't re-poped it yet. No demand i guess.

Re: K series shifter boots

Thank you for the help.

I will get the sponge seal for the transmission but I need to find something for the transfer case. A lot of heat comes through the transfer case shift opening when going down the road.

61K10 - What boot are you running for the transfer case shifter?

Looks like the same offerings as LMC and Classic Parts.

I'd like to try the 67-72 boot, but nobody sells a retainer ring to go with it (at least I cannot find one).

From what I've seen on the two K trucks I've had, there may not have ever been a retaining ring, as no holes around either boot. What I did on my X-fer shiftier was install a round boot and put it down the hole far enough that the pleats of the boot hold it in. No ring is needed and it puts the Boot low enough that it will lay against the floor correctly when in 2 Hi. Not sure if the boots I used were correct, as had a couple different ones to choose from, but looks like you could cut down the tranny shifter from a later truck and make that work. Sorry no pictures, but not very good at posting them (have to get my wife to do it) but hope you get the idea, as it has worked good for me.

Re: K series shifter boots

the 67-72 t/f case one should work. Maybe make your own ring? water blast one? Put it under your mat or rug?
