1952-1954 doors
I have 48 doors for my trucks and they have the drop down handles. I want to do the later model push button outside door handles.
Where would one look for the bracket that goes inside the door and the handle bolts to? Thanks. |

miracle pie just did this, you need to MAKE a set of brackets, no one sells such an item.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=764691 cliff notes: you have to make the bracket yourself from a pair of early strikers/latches and a pair of late strikers/latches because the shape and bolt pattern of the recess on the cab is different early to late. you COULD cut out the section of the late cab and graft it, but miriclepies way works well in the pictures.

Thanks Joe. I was looking at Miricale's striker plate work earlier.
I was hoping to find the piece that goes inside the door. It is oblong and spot welds to the inside of the door skin. It is a stiffener for the push button handle. It is an odd shape with a rolled lip, so I was hoping to find some old doors that someone would cut the part out of I think as I haven't found anyone selling something that looks like it would work. Went to a car show today and saw 3 ADs and looked them over real well. Very nice trucks. I'll have to post some pictures. |

I'd think the best way would be to find a pair of junk doors or what was left of a pair of junk doors. I think I have around 10 doors but not a single push button door in the mix. The remains of a 53 Cab I have didn't come with doors.
Or get you nose inside a door to see exactly what you need to reinforce the door.

Have you thought about the rest of the logistics of this?
I was thinking about doing something similar, since I cut in bearclaws. It would be easy for me to just us an electronic push button in the push button cylinder spot on the 52+ door handles. But from the pics, and what I remember about the door, it looks like you will have at least one hole to fill, plus the lock cylinder hole. I think I kind of like the look of the turndown handles, personally, so I think I'll figure out an internal button system to make those work. |

I looked at 3 trucks at the Karem Kar show this weekend. It's a Shriner event in Waco Texas set in the Shriner children's camp. One was turn down handle and 2 were push button. Had Richard (my buddy who wants the 48 and his wife) and my wife with me. All liked the push button. So here I go.
I have looked at the holes and read one good write up on what one board member did to replace the turn downs with push buttons on his. Interesting to figure it out. While I'd like to be driving it, since I'm still working at my 9 to 5, this is all therapeutic and kind of fun. I'm not great at it, but getting a little better the more I do. This is why I'd really like to find some old doors to cut the parts out of. I think it'd make it easier. If not, I think I'll try to make a set as suggested above and see if I can get them to fit. |
