Internal style Locking hub reassembly
When your reassembling the stock locking hub do you align the inside splines of #11 and #12 in the diagram so there "locked" in place or do u leave them offset so there not locked together? I'm asking bc it seems like you would want them to be offset bc it appears that when turn the hub dial to the "lock" position the actuating cam would turn the inner clutch ring[#12] allowing it to lock into axle sleeve ring (#11).
First time assembling these older style hubs any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Attaching a diagram of the locking hub assembly as well |

Re: Internal style Locking hub reassembly
Hi Hunter,
I would place the hub dial into the free position, then it will not matter if these spines are lined up or not when assembling the hubs. The inner drive gear that slides on the axle splines will remain stationary while driving, and the hub is unlocked. The clutch ring is spring loaded, so when you go to lock in the hubs, if you have spline block (50/50 chance) the spring will force the clutch ring and inner drive gear to lock as soon as you roll forward. You will hear them "click" when they lock in. Important note, only apply a thin layer of grease where the clutch ring slides in and out, over greasing the hubs will cause them to not function. |
