5.3 DBC idle issues/IAC relearn
I have a 5.3 w/BTR Stage 3 cam, new PCM, new wiring harness, new IAC, new TPS. Good fuel pressure and runs good but surges and dies when stopping in traffic as though it can't quite "find" the correct idle. I found an "IAC relearn" procedure but was wondering if anyone else has dealt with similar issues and tried the IAC relearn with success. Or any other solution.
thanks |

Re: 5.3 DBC idle issues/IAC relearn
The "relearn" is just manually disconnecting, setting the throttle opening, and reconnecting the sensors. You do need to be able to read your tps% with a scanner though. Since you did replace them, its not the worst thing to try and doesn't cost anything.
Cam surge isn't strange, and some setups will suffer more than others depending on converter choice, cam choice, and the tune. If your surge is feeling dangerous (like killing the engine trying to get up a steep hill in traffic, or dying at parking lot speeds), then a call to you tuner is probably a good idea. Cam surge can be tuned out/smoothed with some tricks. Check the mechanical stuff first (vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks, the IAC relearn), then move onto the tune. That BTR cam isn't so huge that you should be getting unmanageable surge.
