Midnight Blue or Navy Blue?

I'm picking up my new truck tomorrow, an '87 K20, but I wanted to know what color it is.... I can't tell the difference between midnight and navy! Midnight seems darker..... I just can't tell, help a new 73-87 member out!

Re: Midnight Blue or Navy Blue?

I'll bet money on RPO 29, Midnight Blue. I only have color and trim books up to 1986, but I doubt that "Navy Blue" was a factory RPO color in 1987. It wasn't in 86.

Re: Midnight Blue or Navy Blue?

That color is GM Code 29 Dark Blue. Not 100% sure about the name of the color, but the code is correct.

I will look up and post what I find. That color was used alot in the 80's.

Here is what I found: In 1986, the color was called Dark Blue for Code 29. In 1987, the same code 29 was called Dark Sapphire Blue.

Re: Midnight Blue or Navy Blue?

Look and see what the code is on your spid sheet, inside the glove box. Then you can actually decode everything about your truck. This will help. There are a bunch of websites That help with this.

Than you for responding. I just went today and showed them the same decal from my truck but they couldn’t give me a straight answer on what color it was. What number do they need to look up?

Re: Midnight Blue or Navy Blue?

My 1988 Suburban also had the code of 29U sprayed with Nason. There can be a slight difference in the color depending on the manufacture of the paint being used. I've painted cars with very high end paint, to stuff that most body shops use. It all comes down to how much you want to spend. One time did all the bodywork, then had Maaco spay it using the best PPG paint offered (sounds crazy I know, but they had the best spray booth in town at the time and the painter was very good) to a guys garage with box fans using Nason.

I'll bet, you go and have small test samples made from different manufactures and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Good Luck,
