trouble removing steering box
unbolted from frame without trouble and from steering column but I cannot remove the gear box from the rest of the steering system - have removed the large hex nut but cannot get things moving - any tips?

Manual or power streering? Sounds like you're trying to remove the pitman arm from the steering gear. You'll need a pitman arm puller, a tool available at auto parts stores for about 20-30 bucks. You can remove the other end of the pitman arm from the tie rod center link eye with a pickle fork.
