Found a nice 69 blazer.

Picked up a 1969 Blazer today. Now I'm hoping to teach my boys how to work on the old K5.

Welcome
That is a nice Find.
Hope you teach your boys and
they get into the way trucks and cars should still be.
Someone has too carry the torch.
What is first on the list?

Re: Found a nice 69 blazer.

Thanks guys. First I have to get it running. The PO pulled some wiring to replace, but never got around to it. Then recover the front seats. After that take the top off and drive. It has some rust that needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later, because the PO started taking panels off. Realign the drivers door. Tell you the truth it needs a lot, but that’s ok. I’ll post some pics next week after the holiday. Happy Turkey Day!

Re: Found a nice 69 blazer.

I know you're from California but you say it has some rust. Im sure you're ok but just make sure your rocker boxes underneath are solid before tou take off the top. Those help the rigidity.....does your vin start with a B? If so, you have a legit 69. Good find

Re: Found a nice 69 blazer.

Funny you say that, the VIN starts with a B. I found it odd thinking it should start with a K. The rocker boxes have some rust but i think i can save them. Now I'm scared to take the top off, since the rocker panels are off.
The Blazer has drum brakes so it will be interesting to see how it stops, or should i say doesn't stop. lol. The PO said he put on new drums, brake shoes, wheel cylinders. So well see...

Re: Found a nice 69 blazer.

Those drums actually work pretty well. Just remember it's a truck, not a Corvette

Great looking K5!!

Re: Found a nice 69 blazer.

If you have rust to repair in the floor and torsion boxes -

-keep the top on and bolted down
-replace the body mounts/bolts with a new set
-align/shim the doors to open/close w/o sticking

Then start replacing rust...if you don't do these above items - you may find yourself doing it twice as things tend to shift w/o a top on and rust in the body.

Agree on the nice truck - get us some more pix when you have time. Looks like a great start.

Re: Found a nice 69 blazer.

No corvette here, haha! Just a slow K5 full of kids and a wife. I'm glad to hear the drums can work good, Yukon Jack. I was hoping to save money and not have to convert it to disk brakes.
Thanks for the advice on the rust repair, lks dcvn. I'm going to definitely use it when it comes time. probably soon lol.
