Advise on a 6.0L with 6L80E
I have a 2007 LY6 V8 and was wondering if a 6L80E would be a good fit for my 1950 Chevy 3100. I’ve been told the 4L60E is almost similar in size with the TH400 making installation a little easier. Has anyone used a 6L80E transmission on their trucks?

i thought the 4l60e was similar to the TH350 and the 4l80e was similar to the TH400, which is a fair sight bigger than the th350. if the 6l80e is similar to the TH400/4l80e then you should check out OutlawDrifter's thread, he did a 4l80e in his truck. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=732777 if the 6L80e is smaller than the 4l80e, then you should still have plenty of room.

4L80E is longer and heavier than the THM400.
6L80E seems to be a decent transmission but there is a *lot* of shifting up and down in stock applications and our local trans shop reports they are seeing more converter failures than they are used to. |

Re: Advise on a 6.0L with 6L80E
I have an LS1/4L60e and I had to move my radiator forward to have enough room for an electric fan. My 4L60E is about 1/4" away from the seam of the firewall and floor. The 6L80E is larger so you will need to modify the firewall and floor.
My engine is out of an '04 GTO which has an accessory drive like a Camaro. You may get a little more room with a Corvette style accessory drive but I think you will still need to modify the floor and firewall. Here's a chart with all of the dimensions http://non-stoptransmission.com/en/info-chevrolet.php

Re: Advise on a 6.0L with 6L80E
I’m not sure this info would be helpful since it’s about my Task Force.
I have an LQ4 and a 4l85e in it. It came out of a 2011 Isuzu N series delivery truck with only 81,000 miles on it. We rebuilt/refreshed both though they didn’t really need it. I used the factory mechanical fan and serpentine system. We had to use the factory 4 speed trans tunnel cover instead of the stock 3 speed cover to allow for the bigger size of the trans. It clears just barely so I am a little concerned about heat transfer through to the cab floor. No cutting on the firewall nor moving the radiator was necessary though we did use a narrower (I think) cross flow radiator instead of the stock one. Pics in my build thread.
