new starter
hey guys, i need a new starter for my sbc. what is the best one to get and where should i get it for the best price? i dont need any chrome or anything fancy, but i was wondering if there were any brands to stay away from or if anyone has any good deals. thanks

Are you sure you need the whole started and not just the solenoid?

Anything sold in a "twilight ZONE" store (or it's offspring) is suspect. I have learned this the hard way. Go to a reputable parts house and get the best you can afford, it will be worth it.

I actually think it might be just the solenoid but the starter is gonna need replaced at some point anyways and iill be getting a new engine soon so i want to start fresh. so should i just buy local, as opposed to like summit or jegs or something?

Im not sure were you live, but I would look for a place that rebuilds them. Take yours in and have it rebuilt, that way the housing is the same and you will know how many shims are needed, if any.
