235 head install
So I’m tackling this today. Wish me luck!! While I do this today, does anyone have good advice to give me?
So far I’m gonna do: Clean bolt holes Spray copper spray on block side of gasket Drop the head Torque head bolts Install thermostat housing with now thermostat Water pump Radiator hoses And valve adjustment if needed(which I’ve never done before) Wish me luck! |

Rocker lash (valve adjustment) will 100% definitely need to be done. Not tough if you're this far!

Are you Double Dawg Sure you started with #1 on COMPRESSION & not on Overlap?
Is there a timing mark on the front damper? The way I do it start with #1 on compression, Make a mark on the pulley @0 degree TDCC. On a straight six cyl engine make two more marks on the damper evenly spaced. (4 marks evenly spaced for a V8) Adjust #1 cyl & then the rest in order (153624) One more rotation to the next mark should land you where you started on #1 TDCC & you can check #1 again. If you tire of this you can always pop a set of Hyd Lifters in there! |

I always adjusted the valve lash on solid lifters with the engine running at operating temp. I don't know 235 specs for lash, but you'll want to make sure .006 and .018 are correct or it will have an affect.
I did my 305 v6's valve lash running and it worked out perfectly. With solid lifters you should hear some tapping or clatter....if they are silent they are to tight.

Looks like the correct adjustment for the exhaust valves is actually .013 at operating temp. .006 is right for the intake. Might try tightening the exhausts down a bit. Doing it running is the easiest way in my experience, but this may help you a bit.

She runs great! Also this is a solid lifted motor so I did them with the motor at running temp and the motor off. Adjusted each valve one by one just like an old Volkswagen! |

Correct! I remember doing that method with my 67’ 250 straight 6, later finding out that it has hydraulic lifters. Which is different from my current old solid lifter 235
