Couple if instrument Cluster questions.

Two questions

1) I have a cluster out of an 89 Chevy dump truck (Square body). I thought I read somewhere that 89 cluster's are different then 81-87. Can anyone clarify that for me.

***This is not the 1989 Cluster pictured below.***

2) Does anyone know what year or years this cluster should fit?

Re: Couple if instrument Cluster questions.

Looks like a 73+ cluster to me. Not sure when the instruments changed over, but my 87 is different than the one pictured. I'm sure you'll get an accurate reply later.

Re: Couple if instrument Cluster questions.

It will "fit" or bolt up in any year. However, the font on gauges changed to fatter letters/digits in the early 80s. Also the pinout on the connector changed over the years and as far as gauges vs. no gauges. I know the Suburbans got electric Speedos in 1991. Some of the earlier 70s had mechanical vs. electrical oil gauges and ampmeter vs. volt meter.

Re: Couple if instrument Cluster questions.

That's a 77, 78, or 79 instrument cluster.
They went to 85 mph speedometers when the NHTSA mandated it in September of 1979.

RTFM... GM Parts Books, GM Schematics, GM service manuals, and GM training materials...Please include at least the year and model in your threads. It'll be easier to answer your questions.
And please let us know if and how your repairs were successful.

Thanks everyone for the answers. I couldn't remember when they stopped making the 100 mph.

Re: Couple if instrument Cluster questions.

it has volts and electric oil pressure so would be late 70s. Earlier ones have amps and mechanical oil gauge.....
