fuel tank location
Is the fuel tank located in the cab a negative for most people? I'm trying to keep a 58 Fleetside as original as possible except for suspension upgrades. I did repair all the rusty areas but will keep the body dents and rusty bumpers, it just looks cool to me and says I'm an old truck. I know the obvious safety issues with the tank in the cab but would it matter to the buyer when I want to sell if it's not under the bed? 1958 Fleetside, 283, anniversary paint (black epoxy), Big window, short box

Re: fuel tank location
For me, I prefer not to have a gas tank right behind me and the potential smell of gasoline in the cab all the time.

Re: fuel tank location
Do you know if there would still be a smell with all new parts?

Re: fuel tank location
My 55.2 did not have a gas tank when I got it. I moved the tank to under the bed. I prefer not to have it inside the cab.
You may want to also consider filling the gas filler hole in the cab. Tanks Inc has a lot of options for bed mounted tanks. |

Re: fuel tank location
personally I would move the tank for safety reasons. you can keep the hole in the cab and use the existing part to make it look like there is a tank. just fix something on the inside to hold the filler neck and then block the tube off at the fill inlet so someone can't unknowingly try to fill from there. you could even knock a frost plug into the fill hole somehow. then block the bottom of the tube off with rubber hose and a plug just so there is no smell from residue on a hot day. install the tank under neath and use a remote filler. that way if someone buys the truck and wants the original tank it is still a viable option. keep all the hardware if you want or let the next owner worry about that if he decides he wants it back to original. stick a label on the fill plug to identify the no fill from here and also the new fill location.
