Upper door seal - what type of adhesive?

Curious what type of adhesive y'all are using on your upper door seals? #2 in the picture:

Yes, it’s an adhesive for rubber. You can get it at your local auto store.

Interesting! That 3M adhesive states that it is yellow, which is the color of the residue on my door frame. I'll give that a try.

Re: Upper door seal - what type of adhesive?

Which 3M product would you recommend to use on the cab seals (thick ones)? I notice there is a gluey substance leftover when I removed them.

I didn’t use anything on my cab seals.

I know the stuff I got was black, not yellow. So I went and dug it out. This is what I bought to use, the black.

Re: Upper door seal - what type of adhesive?

I am guessing that the upper door seal is optional, since none of the 3 squares I have owned have had them. Would it help with wind noise on the highway?

I think there were only a few years in the late 70's that used them. I don't know any more details.

Re: Upper door seal - what type of adhesive?

I got mine, for good measure. But after having the vent windows rebuilt and all new seals for the door and cab, it quieted down a lot. I never got around to doing the upper seal, there really hasn’t been a need to now.

Yes.

Any time there was a big management push to fix wind noise the seals got added.

Immediately after that there would be a big management push for cost cutting measures and the seals would be the first to go.

Re: Upper door seal - what type of adhesive?

I just added them to my 90 K5. Got them from Precision. They have a metal tab at each end for a screw. They still need adhesive for the length. I had a tube of the 3m yellow stuff. Started with it. Ran out. Then went and bought some of the 3M black. Think it is called "3m superblack". The black stuff is way better than the yellow.

Interesting!! My Precision replacements don’t have metal tabs on either end nor did my originals, weird.

I think you guys are thinking about the exterior seal. I'm talking about the one that goes on the inner upper door frame.

#2 of your picture. That is the one I’m talking about. It came with a metal tab, to put a screw into the door, on the end of the seal.

Re: Upper door seal - what type of adhesive?

Anyone know if the seals can be used on the rear-doors of a crewcab or Suburban?

I'd like to add them to all four if possible.

Thanks,

Rock auto list one set as working all four even though it list for 87 GMC 2 door pickup truck............
