Gen5 pcv hookup question
Not many have done l83 swaps, but for the ones who have how are you connecting the 2 ports on the valve covers?
Just 2 filters on em? I was thinking connecting them together and run them to the intake tube somehow.. or could you connect them to the unused purge valve port? Been looking online and again, no answers..

Re: Gen5 pcv hookup question
I think if you just run filters on them you are going to hate the underhood smell every time you decelerate and crankcase vapor is highest.
It's better if you can tee them together and port it to manifold vacuum, which is highest during deceleration, and will help purge the sump. |

Re: Gen5 pcv hookup question
Stock runs both hoses to the intake tube.
Aftermarket intakes has a bung welded to them, no baffle from the pictures I've see. I'm gonna play around with some scrap 1/2 hose and run it to the purge valve port... see how that works if not just weld a bung to the intake tube and run the hose there Clint

Re: Gen5 pcv hookup question
I'm pretty sure on the older setup the fresh air side (passenger) is metered... the otherside (driver) is not...
Jonathon (dayj1) will know...he explained it to me but I cant remember the exact....something about the engine thinking it has a vacuum leak... So I'm thinking your fresh air side should be before the throttle and the other side after the throttle... If it was originally in the intake tube I'd put it back there in your new setup..

Dont pay attention to the fan relay, its temporarily. Not bad for Mickey moused together with scrap stuff, but no dice. Way to much vacuum on that port without a restriction, I could barley remove the oil fill cap. Too much vacuum like that will damage seals .. I might grab a 3/8 bolt and chuck it up in a drill and cut off the smooth part and start with a 1/8 hole and make a restrictor, but may just order some bongs online. This looks way to good to work.. Re: Gen5 pcv hookup question
The two ports in the valve cover on those engines are fresh air in, dont connect to the purge port which is under vacuum. You have no ventilation occurring or very little because the entire pcv system is under vacuum.
Those two ports go to your intake tube, like stock, but it doesnt matter if you tee them together like you have them, as long as they arent under vacuum, so put them before the throttle blade. The vacuum side of the pcv system comes out by the front of the cam and runs up to the middle of the drivers side of the intake. |
