Re: Plenty of extreme’s
Forgive the newbie here, but what’s the story on insanely expensive tow hooks?
What makes the originals so special that guys would pay so much for them? |

Re: Plenty of extreme’s
They're extremely rare. They were only made in 1972 and they have a very unusual bend in them, kind of like a ram's horn.

Re: Plenty of extreme’s
I think all my D-ring shackles are Chinese by now. They are all between 4 1/2 and 6 ton WLL, I am fine with them. I've been wondering when an after market would pop up, beings people will pay for what looks original. You can get hooks with a safe WLL for twenty bucks all day long! Don't see why they can't easily make some of the "extreme bends" with a safe WLL, be it in China or anywhere else.

Re: Plenty of extreme’s
I have done business with the man that took the bull by the horn and had these extreme bend tow hooks manufactured. He personally told me he hooked his 8 wheel tractor to these hooks and a tree then pulled until it bent the shackle connecting them. The hook did not break or bend. I saw pictures and a video of these months ago and at that time i was blown away how exact of a reproduction they are. I offered to be a distributor but did not have a big enough market for him. He did good by going with the truck shop. Not bad for a farmer from Iowa. Thanks Bill White for bringing these to market and hope you sell enough to recoup your investment. We will see what effect it has on the original extremes. Purists will always want GM. Woof

Re: Plenty of extreme’s
Thanks for that info, Steve! Oughtta help reassure anyone looking to pick up a set of those hooks. Still too rich for my blood though, I'll keep my aftermarket hooks that have served me well.
Side note, I hope to get my truck out of paint prison in a month or so. If you like I'll swing by and show it off.

Re: Plenty of extreme’s
There are also very reputable people who said they are not cast. Why do you choose to believe that post?
Edit: I read all of the comments on the businesses Facebook page and twice he mentioned that they ARE cast. So even though they may be stronger than your average cast, they are not forged according to the seller.

You can lower the flag. Notice I did not declare them to be 100% iron-clad guaranteed unbreakable and safe under all possible circumstances.
