My original gas tank modification
As many of you have done I ripped out the original gas tank behind the seat on my 66 C50. I couldn’t see just throwing it out so I decided to cut it up and have it double as a storage compartment for stuff behind my seat. I also made some corner 6x9 speaker mounts. Last pic is after I sprayed the interior with a tintable bed liner I tinted to match the factory fawn color. Anyways, hope you like my gas tank mod.

Re: My original gas tank modification
And finally bolted in after spraying the bed liner in the cab. I also decided to run my speaker wires up through the hole of the original fuel line hole.

Re: My original gas tank modification
That is one of the most creative ideas for an unused tank ever. Ive had mine on the side yard for over a year while I struggle to store stuff in the truck. Most anything I keep behind the seat usually ends up at my feet rolling around.
Brilliant idea!

Re: My original gas tank modification
Man, I love this idea! If I ever swap to a different tank, I will probably do something similar

Re: My original gas tank modification
I agree......I imagine that a recently used tank would have to be washed out and aired out for a while before being used like that not to mention the possibility of an explosion when cutting it.

I really dig this idea for storage though. Ive been racking my brain since I pulled the tank out only to have the solution sitting in the side yard the whole time.

These guys power-washed a gas tank out for about 30 minutes, they said there was barely any smell of gas but. At about the 20 second mark: https://youtu.be/XdXMRkQsDE8

Re: My original gas tank modification
I heard that you should fill the tank with water and then cut. Sounds messy but should displace the fumes inside the tank.

Re: My original gas tank modification
Using a pneumatic tool only, that would work.

Re: My original gas tank modification
This tank had been sitting in my shop for a few months empty. I took the sending unit out and the fill side was open. I then took it outside in the snow and threw a match in it just for the fun of it. Nothing happened so I started cutting away! Lol
