Anti freeze on intake

Just wondering if you have any ideas how the antifreeze showed up on the front of the intake. My thought was from the thermostat housing. I have not drove The truck since I picked it up a few weeks ago. I fired it up this evening and was waiting for the thermostat to open up but I ran out of time and had to go make dinner. thought I would ask before I fired it up again.

Sure it's not simply leaking from the upper radiator hose, right there? My intake had a small pool of coolant like that last week - turns out the hose was simply leaking slightly. I drained the system down a little, and had room to simply cut the hose back an inch and re-clamp on a fresh section. No more leak! Simple fixes are the best.

I had something similar happen the other day, it was so cold that the hose to the thermostat neck leaked at the start before it warmed up. Tightened the hose and no problem since. I’d give that a shot, if nothing else it’s an easy check.

I will double check the hose. I was watching it as it was warming up and didn’t see anything. but like I said I couldn’t wait any longer for the stat to pop open. I will double check this weekend. Thanks for the quick reply’s

Put an end to all the guess work and add one of these to your tool box..

I had this EXACT same thing happen to my truck. Brand new hoses, so I knew it wasn't that. Tried replacing the thermostat housing gasket, still leaked! Then I realized that the part of the thermostat housing that the hose slid onto was pitted and the hose couldn't get a good seal around the housing. Bought a new housing, problem solved!

If tightening up the hose clamp and housing bolts doesn't fix it, I'd check the thermostat housing where the hose slides on.

can also rent that tool from oreilly...essentially for free ( get your money back when you return it). works great...used it on my dump truck looking for a leaking piston liner...and again on a leaking radiator.
