Sway bar need replaced

Hello - would a sway bar ever need replaced? Do these ware down and become less functional? I’m interested in replacing the bushings to make it more functional but didn’t know if the bar itself experienced ware enough to make it (the bar) less effective requiring a full replacement.

1975 Chevy Blazer

Thanks

Re: Sway bar need replaced

I had one on a caprice station wagon that was twisted side to side. that is the only time I have replaced a bar.

Re: Sway bar need replaced

My Dad always bought trucks without a sway bar because we worked them around the farm. On the road any sway bar would be better than no sway bar. They still drove ok without the sway bar.

The actual bar itself is not really a "wearable" part. The bushings are wearable. However, if the bushings fail & fall out, there could be gouging on the bar surface that might warrant replacing. Also, if the bar ever hit something & got bent, I would replace it. Other wise, fresh bushings & it will be good to go.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

The bar is not usually a wearable part. I would lay it flat and see if one side is kicked up. that would tell you it's bent and needing replacing.

Re: Sway bar need replaced

X2 the above. I replaced the sway bar bushings on my C20 and it made a world of difference in handling. The bushings may look OK but if you see any squishing on the outside you can be sure that they are shot on the inside. I used polyurethane bushings on mine. When I had the bar out I sanded it down and gave it a couple coats of quality high gloss black paint.
