Restoring 55-59 doors?

Trying to restore my 1958 Apache doors, I searched doors but mostly came up with replacing or repairing metal. I would like to know how to go about restoring my doors, step by step or sequence involved. I bought new windows and complete vent windows but what else is in there? Mine have only the original regulators and control arm to open the door. What seals or parts are needed to put in the windows? What holds the glass to the regulator? How about the window frame? Isn’t there a gasket or felt seal for that? I see some kind of wore out wipe on the bottom inside of the window opening but I’m not sure how to replace it or if it’s even available. If anyone has done this to their doors please let me know what you came across restoring your doors. Pictures would be a great help to me. Thanks

Re: Restoring 55-59 doors?

The factory service manual for that year (copy of the ones that GM sent to the dealer shops) should have some of that info.

Be it a fully restored to showroom stock or a modified the factory service manual is a good investment as it has a lot of the procedures to adjust panels and things like door window regulators. https://www.amazon.com/Chevrolet-Tru.../dp/B000H6JJKO

All of the truck trinket vendors sell them along with Ebay but watch the shipping costs.

There is a book called "How to restore your Chevrolet truck" that I do not recommend at all. It is pretty much a waste of money . There is another book on TF trucks that is primarily outdated customizing articles that were the hot lick when the book was printed the first time but far outdated now.

We have several TF guys on here (not me) who are very knowledgeable and who should be able to answer specific questions and that might be a better way to ask. Ask questions on specific tasks one at a time.

Re: Restoring 55-59 doors?

There are scanned copies of the manuals previously mentioned.
1955 Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual

1955 - 1959 Truck Assembly Manual

These are going to be your best references. I'm not sure there's a step by step guide. Most of us use the inspect/repair/replace methodology rather than follow a recipe.

Re: Restoring 55-59 doors?

common places of concern for tf doors
-area around lower hinge, inside door, cracks
-area in between the inner and outer door panels where the glass slides, behind the vent window, there is a reinforcement web between the two parts, it cracks
-outer door skin, lower area, rust issues at the bottom
-inner door panel, lower area, rust issues
-area around the door latch, cracks
-all these doors fit on a one on one basis from factory, another door from another truck may not fit accordingly. aftermarket doors are some good some bad.
