55.2-59 Will a 55-56 steering wheel work on a 58?

My ‘58 truck originally had the 55-56 steering wheel when I bought it. I’ve since then added factory signal light hub and correct ‘58 steering wheel. I’ve test driven it and prefer the older steering wheel. My question is will the 55-56 steering wheel work with the 58-59 turn signal hub? Or do I have to buy the hub that works with the older wheel?

not positive but I think my 57 GMC wheel looks the same on the back side as my 58 Chevy wheel if memory serves. some of the difference was the diameter of the wheel and some wheels were dished and others were flat. longer steering columns for the flat wheels.
my wheels are both Canadian models and there were some differences between US and Canadian stuff.

I believe the 57 wheel is the same as 58-59. I guess I have to take it all apart and see what fits.

The only difference I am finding is that there is some sort of difference in the turn signal switch but they use the same canceling arm and same horn pieces. The turn signal "cup" with switch and pieces looks the same with a one letter difference in the part number as does the turn signal switch. Snooping though the Classic pasts catalog shows that they are too close to call https://www.classicparts.com/Switches/products/125/

The turn signal lever straight is out from the turn signal cup on 55 - 56 trucks with the flat steering wheel. The 57-59 turn signal cup lever is angled. I have never tried to do what you are dong but if you have clearance between the lever and the wheel everything will work. I am not sure if anyone is selling the potmetal yoke inside the cup. If they are you could change that out to the early straight 55-56 syle. Could bend you lever but kind of hokey. Good luck. Actual steering column shaft is a little shorter on 57-59 . I like that with a flat steering wheel from 54-56 as it kind of gets the wheel out of your face. Thanks

Because the column is shorter on a 5'789 (as previously mentioned) I recommend you do a dry test fit of the 55, 56 wheel before anything else because the top of the wheel may be too close to dash and/or too far to reach. The bottom of the wheel will be lower to seat and closer to dash which may not be desirable.

Let us know what you discover.

I was wanting more space between me and the wheel plus I like the flatter steering wheel. I guess I’ll give it a try and report back to what I find. I still have to figure out the whole signal light wiring. I purchased factory type wiring harnesses but I don’t see where the flasher would go. I guess I’m missing a fuse panel? Wish I could see a factory signal light setup.

"Factory type wiring harness"? From where? The factory harness I bought included flasher and fuse block...

I purchased a factory wiring kit from either LMC or Jim Carter. It matched my old harness and did not have the fuse block. The flasher was on a separate wire circuit that is under the dash and the speedometer head.

BTW My FIL had a 55 with the flat type steering wheel. He always complained about bumping the horn button when turning the truck in town. To each their own. I like the "dish" of the 57-59 and the different horn button. But I would say make it like you want.

I put the dished 57 wheel on my 53 so I could use the factory turn signal switch. The wheel and switch mech. was $20 and it cost me $40 the have the column shortened 4".

I bought the harness(s) from American Autowire about 6yrs ago. I’ll look and see if there’s plug for the flasher but I’m sure it didn’t come with one.
