need a source or part number
i need a source for the 4 little nylon inserts on each door bottom that the trim screws go into, they snap into the metal door and the trim screws go through the door panel then screw into these. mine have been enlarged to only hold a #12 sheet metal screw which is way too large, I think the original for a 1971 c10 uses #8 trim screws with a washer on them.
I ordered a complete set of 8 screws and washers from lmc, but they appear to be 1/4" with machine threads ( way too large) which is not what goes in my door? I called lmc and got no help what so ever? all they said was send the screws back for a refund! this is not my concern, I need to mount my new door panels and I found a thread on this site that gave part numbers and screw sizes but i haven't located the nylon (nuts) inserts? |

Ace Hardware is where I get mine. They’ve got most everything you’ll need.

Re: need a source or part number
Both my '67 and my '69 came from the General with 1/4"-20 machine trim screws.

Re: need a source or part number
It is my understanding that the 71& 72's used the nylon inserts and the earlier years used the 1/4-20 cage nuts.

Re: need a source or part number
Hmm, I thought only the 72 uses nylon inserts.
My 71 panels mount using four fixed nuts per door with #2 stainless steel countersunk phillips screws and flush washers. The screw threads are 1/4-20 x 5/8.

Re: need a source or part number
67-71 door panels use cage nuts (Lowe's) and 1/4 x 20 counter sunk chrome screws

Re: need a source or part number
every part on my truck is original as far as the body goes,it is a 1971, my doors have 4 small square nylon nuts along the bottom of where the door panel goes, someone may have enlarged the threads because a #12 screw fits them these just seemed too large but i ordered some today from autofastenersandclips.com they have lots of items just a lot of navigating their site to find them.
i also ordered the #12 washers like trim screws have on them too. Thanks I will see if they look to big when put in the panels, if they do i will have to find and change the nylon nuts? Last edited by james69z28; 04-12-2019 at 10:34 PM. Reason: added year model |

Re: need a source or part number
I've had pretty good luck with rivet nuts. Have not used them on door panels but cannot see why they would'nt unless I'm 180 out on what your trying to do.

Re: need a source or part number
I have been thinking about using them i have a complete set with 10 or more sizes, i would just prefer to go back as close to original as possible, but as a last resort i will use them. Thanks for the reply
