1954 Chev 3100 Wheel Bearing Dust Caps

Hello all,
Both my front wheel bearing dust caps fell off and I'm trying to locate replacements for my stock 1954 Chev 3100.

I found a set that looked like they would fit based upon measurements.
When I received the dust caps, they are about 1/8" too small.

Look at the attached picture. The packaging indicates 2.18" diameter, but the actual measurement is 2.08".

I'm still working to get a resolution to this problem with the vendor.

Still searching for wheel bearing dust caps.
Portland swap meet will be my next attempt to find dust caps.

I'm tempted to draw up my own and 3D print.

Re: 1954 Chev 3100 Wheel Bearing Dust Caps

The wheel bearing dust cap saga continues.
I now have 4 sets of dust caps that indicate they are for a 1954 chev 3100 truck. All are too small.

All hardware I've bought so far has fit correctly - wheel bearings, brakes, wheel cylinder.

I have measured the ID of the hub and it's 2.13", which converts to 54.1mm.
What could be wrong? I don't think the hubs are off anything different, but now starting to have doubts. Yes- they are 6 lug hubs.

It would be great if some one with a 1954 chev 3100 could measure the ID of their hubs for comparison.
Thanks

Re: 1954 Chev 3100 Wheel Bearing Dust Caps

Funny that I would see this, I just an hour ago ordered some from my local parts store for my truck. It's got passenger car hubs though so I am not sure if they are the same. I will be trying them out tonight or tomorrow and will let you know if they work and what the measurement is. I have a pair of originals too, but they are in pretty funky condition.

Like I said, my hubs are from a 49-54 passenger car so they may not be the same. But I got the exact Mr. Gasket #2486 ones you got and they fit in my hubs.

strange you are having problems. I got my dust covers from NAPA. they are for a passenger car hub and fit great. I took the hub & drum with me and they measured them on the spot. had 2 in stock.

I have been to Napa and looked at everything they had on the shelf. Nothing even close.

Then you have some odd ball hubs is the only thing it can be. Or someone modified those to use different bearings?

It has drums right?

Yes it has 6 lug hub / drum. I just installed new brake shoes, springs, wheel cylinder, and wheel bearings. All hardware bought for a 1954 chev 3100 and it fits.

What else could it be?

I'm going to a muffler shop and try to stretch the dust caps I have.

Fired up the 3D printer and will print a set today.
If they fit - I may use the ABS parts, or I could have them locally printed in metal.

Good thinking, but it won't be much!

Yes - I drew this up and printed on my 3D printer. Needs a little adjustment and printed again. Only took 1 hour to print.

I love to design / 3D print.

ABS

ABS or Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene is a common thermoplastic polymer typically used for injection molding applications. This engineering plastic is popular due to its low production cost and the ease with which the material is machined by plastic manufacturers. Better yet, its natural benefits of affordability and machinability do not hinder the ABS material’s desired properties:

Impact Resistance
Structural Strength and Stiffness
Chemical Resistance
Excellent High and Low Temperature Performance
Great Electrical Insulation Properties
Easy to Paint and Glue

Re: 1954 Chev 3100 Wheel Bearing Dust Caps

Took the under sized dust caps to a muffler shop and had them stretched.

Now to buy the new rims and hub caps to fit.

Looking at buying the Wheel Vintiques Series 12 smoothie and hub caps.
Wheel
https://www.wheelvintiques.com/acces...ap-47-198.html
SKU 12-660604
16x 6 , 6 lug 5.5" bolt circle, 4" backspace

Chevy Hub Caps
SKU 2030A

I'm curious if anyone has used these on a stock 1954 Chev 3100.

That's my kind of solution: simple, inexpensive and effective. Make it work, get 'er done.
