74 C20 Lowering

I need some advise. I installed Western Chasis 3" front springs and it didn't come close to lowering the front to where I wanted it. I guess my original springs had settled quite a bit. I'm wanting to install DJM 3" lower control arms. Will I have any alignment issues?

Don't use control arms. Use C30 drop spindles, and C30 calipers.

If your good with a welder pancaking the cross member is a good idea too.

If you look at the cross member it is something like 4" thick.

You can take 1.5" out of it, and bolt it back up to your frame. Then you have to flip your tie rods. Viola. A 1.5" drop with no loss of suspension travel.

When I first pancaked a cross member. I did a double pancake if you will. I lowered the frame mounting 1.5", and then thinned out the rest of the cross member. So I could Z the frame with out having to cut into the trans tunnel. In the end I had something like 4 inches of drop for about $50, and 16 hours of work.

Why not go with lowering control arms?

They put the cross member below the scrub height. So if you loose a tire you very well can stick you A-arms or frame into the ground.

It is said that when you do a 4/6, but really a 5/7 drop the a arms get beat to death since they can come in contact with speed bumps. So you have to go straight over them.

If you have the time, and skill a pancaked cross member. With a small Z solves the frame scrub line issues, and smacking a arms in to speed bumps. All while giving you the stance you want. It cost less, but takes a bit of time.

People do it DJM arms, but you should be aware of the issues they may cause you.
