Gauge cluster swap

Will the cluster out of an 82 work in my 77, and vice versa? Are there any wiring issues? They both have the voltage gauge, temp gauge, and coolant gauge. The newer cluster has a working clock, and it just looks cleaner, IMO.

I am thinking of an LT1 or TPI swap into the 77, figured I might want the buffer at the back of the speedo head for that.

I'm no expert on these things but I do know the oil gauge won't work without change things. Your 77 is set up for a mechanical gauge. It has an oil line that goes to the gauge. The later clusters used an electric gauge with the pressure sensor mounted on the block.

What are trying to accomplish? I have a very nice 77 cluster if it will help. It is not a tach cluster if that's what you are after...

I was just thinking about the speedo head. I would really like to do the Autometer gauge cluster swap. That still may happen. My temp gauge is pegged, and the fuel gauge does a little dance. I am really leaning towards swapping a B-body LT1. They can be picked up for a song ( I actually have a 94 model then needs to be rebuilt, just sitting) or maybe a TPI top end, because I think it looks trick. I need to get some small things sorted out first. The PO ran the exhaust straight out the back, and it almost kills you to drive with the back window down. That is the first order of business. Making the interior not red is probably next.

If Jonboy's not interested in the cluster, I'd like to inquire about it.

What all's there, and price?

Would be putting it in a 77 Blazer...

Jon what do you think? If your not interested, just let me know.

It's the cluster that was in my 77 Cheyenne when I bought it. It's is in excellent condition. The pic makes it look faded, but it's not. All the mounting tabs are good, and all the gauges work correctly. If Jon isn't a player, I'll pm you about a price....

Go ahead Ken. I think I will just save my pennies and do the Autometer thing. After a little thought, I think that is the way I really want to go. I wanted to do that in my 73 truck, but never got around to it. This one might be a keeper for a while.

Cool deal Jon. If Blue Beard is still interested in "my" deal, I'll send him a pm with a price.

Keep me informed on the other deal we talked about. I can get Keith to meet you when ever you are ready. You still want to look at my seats?
