203 transfer case,full time/part time how to tell difference?

How do you tell if a 203 transfer case is part time or full time without driving the truck. 79 K20 turbo 400, 203 combo, I bought as a parts truck to covert my 81 C20 to 4wd. Truck has Warn lock outs.

unless its been converted it should be fulltime 4wd...I think the front driveshaft will turn independent from the rear in 2wd if its been swapped..but should be able to lock in with the 4wd lever.. but you can also take the tail housing off the case and see if it still has the differential gears or not....be a good time to check the chain as well...fulltime 4x4 is notorious for worn chains...

So all the 203 transfer cases Chevy/GMC used are full time 4wd unless converted to part time?

Would it be worth picking up a 205 transfer case and turbo 400 I seen laying on the ground at my local salvage yard? They are still attached to each other and have the mount. The transmission is dated 1980 but the bell housing is cracked, the shifter is still on the transfer case. I don't know how long they have been laying there for. I'm sure the trans is junk but transfer case could be cleaned up.

All that kinda stuff is getting harder to come by..if you have room for storage I'd say go for it...the 203 with the kit is a good trans though..

205/th400 is 32 spline. I'd jump on it if I were you.
