Door hinge help...please

I need to remove the doors on my 85 and install a spare set I have so I can rebuild the originals in the garage.
I believe the pins have been replaced before because they tend to ride up in the hinge until they pop out of the bottom hinge. If so, can I just take the weight off the door and remove the pins to pull the door off? Is this the easiest way to remove it without unbolting the hinge from the door side?

Re: Door hinge help...please

I guess the only thing to consider is whether or not the hinge pin springs are still in place; without them, pulling the pins would be the quickest way to get the doors off if they're loose. If the springs are intact, you could just unbolt the hinges from the doors so you don't have to deal with the spring potentially launching itself at you. I can confirm that if you have manual locks and windows, the doors are pretty light and one person can move them around pretty easily.

If it's an option, you should pick up one of these:

Makes installing any door a one-man job.

I think if I was by my self I would un bolt the door. I think would be easier to put on donor door with the bolts instead of trying to line up door pins. Never know thou.

If the pins come out easily, that would be the quickest way to pull the old doors off. No guarantee the temporary replacements will line up correctly in the cab openings or even fit the hinges without adjusting.

Depending on PU height, a stool or chair with the appropriate number of pillows/cushions/folded towels makes a decent impromptu door support.

Re: Door hinge help...please

On mine,I used a plastic milk crate and 2x4's to support the door.
I wouldn't pull the pins unless you are rebuilding them.Too easy to unbolt the hinges from the door.

Re: Door hinge help...please

I built a 2 x 4 mini stud wall and snugged it up under the door. Then I cut the door pins with a dremel tool and pulled the doors off. I have power windows and door locks so I had to fish the wiring out of the doors first.

Use GM OEM door hinge pins and bushings. They are still available online and from Chevy dealers.
