Re: 12 bolt rear end c-clip eliminator and disc brakes?
I've considered swapping rear ends, and it seems more and more likely to happen as the years roll on, seeing how difficult it gets finding parts...
For the forseeable future, however, my stock gm 12 bolt version 4 rear is staying in place. I spent nearly 1K getting the detroit tru-trak in there... I've also ordered CaptainFab's rear disc brake brackets, and hydroboost brackets, so I'm in for better braking all around, which is another reason to keep the 12 bolt. I'm also trying to find rear lift springs that will bolt on, without having to change to newer version spring hangars, to get rid of the stock 5.5" lift blocks... seems I'm stubbornly trying to headbutt my way thru this and retain the stock rear axle, upgrading along the way... which is kinda my thing I guess... I really don't want to give up that 12 bolt. as for the C-clip eliminators, I have not come across any weld on versions! are they made of steel instead of aluminum? I gave up on the standard versions of C-clip eliminators because the aluminum is too weak for street use, according to the manufacturers themselves! apparently they get hogged out and start leaking gear oil onto the brakes which is super dangerous... so if there is a steel version out there... well, that would be very cool!
