That was a quote I kept hearing my son tonight when we went for a ride in my 68 Chevy. He kept telling me he like the sound of “Old Dusty Truck” He turned 4 last week but has called it that since he could talk. My truck spends most of the time in my shop we live on a gravel road and the dust is bad. I hadn’t been driving her much but over the past few weeks we replaced all the suspension parts new springs and disk brakes he helped. We had a blast but it will work on your patience. I have had the truck over 16 years and hope he keeps the mechanical interest in it and will want to drive it (in several years.) I am planning on driving “old Dusty Truck” as much as I can.
Any way just rambling I don’t spend a lot of time working on my truck because my son gets all the time he wants but it is fun when we can work on her together. Thanks for listening and am sure a lot of you have similar stories. Dave

Wish I had a son who wanted to do that! My daughter (32) has never been able to keep her car clean. When it breaks, she calls DADDY! Keep up the good work!

My kids when they were 3-4 years used to call my truck the "Chevy Old Pickup". Now I've got them both trained to shout "SPORT TRUCK" at the top of their lungs when they see one of our trucks. They love it. (And so do I.)

My son has no interest in my trucks..he loved the first Longhorn...but none since. Come to think of it, same goes for the wife. Hmmmm...

I am the son interested in these trucks, hehe.
It was either the '70 GMC or an early '73 Camaro RS / Z28 / LT, splitbumper and all (of course, the LT badges take precedence over the others, how pointless, lol!) but the Camaro got away... when i was a child, I couldnt say the "tr" sound..it came out "fr"...so my dads truck was old fruck...lol

i am the son to,my dads first truck was a 68 step, thats the first pic i had ever seen of one, at least that i knew what year it was, and i wanted one just like it. before we bought mine we tracked his to florida to see if we could get it back, it had been totaled.i'm gonna save my project forever, hope i can one day have a son to drive it

I am the son, too, and also have the son, chevy family, I guess. I grew up calling dads 67 k-20 the "old bumpy pickup", I started stripping the cab for painting that will go on my 72 and my 22 month old son, Coltin helped. Everytime I'd pull something off and hand him the small stuff, he'd say, "broke!!" sounds more like bokhhe, but pretty cute though.

When my littlest one was about 5, every time I would disassemble something (anything) for repars she would ask....why you break that?
Now if something is broke that can't be fixed she says...go on, fix it. You can fix anything. Hey thanks guys. I am sure it will only get to be more fun as he can really start to help. I think we may take the truck and family to a short 1000 foot track up the road from the house this summer. It should be fun for all (provided I dont break anything major).
I used to help my dad all the time and I think that is what kept me interested . Thanks for letting me ramble. Dave

My son is also four and we are about to begin the frame off restoration on my stepside. He is so excited about working on it even though he has no idea what it is all about. He has been going through the magazines with me, picking out parts, colors, etc.
I have found that this has been very effective with the wife (aka, financial manager) since he is so fired up about it he talks to her about it almost every day, so she is starting to feel a little more committed to the project. He helped me put nerf bars on my daily driver and that was great. He laid on my chest while we were both under the truck and he held the wrench on the nut while I tightened the bolt. His Mom of course was taking pictures the whole time! My Son is three, and he loves working on daddy's truck. He has this fire truck that he rides and he always "puts it up on blocks" and works under it. I don't know where he got the blocks thing becuase my truck has never been on blocks. He also loves the fram commercials he always yells FRAM. and the best part is everytime he sees a Chevy bowtie he yells a bowtie Daddy look a bowtie. also when he is playing with his 69 hot wheel truck he always says daddy this is you, right before he runs it over with Bulldozer or Goldberg.

 My oldest is 20 months right now. It's all he can do to say "cuck" but we know what he means... He's got the "rrrmmm rrrrmmm" down real well though :^) It's a toss-up as to whether he's more excited to see me or the truck at the end of the day. Well, I guess I'm kinda a "Chevy Truck Owners Son"....Sorta, My Dad had a '65 El Camino (kinda a truck) He bought it in '71. Had it until I burned it to the ground in '96 while starting to restore it for him. Well, I didn't burn it up, it was behind my friend Shop in Texas, and the neighbor started a grass fire. After 13 acres and 6 structures. 2 - '67 SWB's, 2 '65 El Camino's and a '81 crew cab dually....All mine... were GONE!!! He still never lets me forget it....like "Hey son, look here in the newspaper, a '65 El Camino For Sale...You know? I used to have one of those?" as he grins at me... He's 63 yrs old, wish I could find a decent cheap one for sale, just to kinda pay him back...

I'm the son of a chevy fan, not really trucks in particular. Hes shocked that I've shown interest in "auto restoration". Ever since the mid 80s when my uncle was restoring my belair I've been infatuated with vintage autos. Although at the time my '71 wasn't really a classic hehe Its been in the family too, I plan on keeping the truck that way, and the belair too if I can support them both financially in the future. I've never actally driven my C10, or even really went anywhere with anyone in it, but my dad had a '72 and my uncle and grandfather had my current project, so.. Everybody knows I'm coming before I get there, not loud exhaust, but all the rattles and bangs, I dont think there is any rubber left in my old burb, windows rattle, fenders bang, doors, whatever. I love it, the old thing acts old, but is tough.
