Re: 87 dash pad

Cheyenne And USA1 Industries. Both are made with the metal frame, just like the OEM dash. All the others are made with a urethane frame, which is what you want to stay away from. They will warp in a matter of months.

Yeah I see that now, wonder why they don’t have the 81-87 anymore. But reading the description, they used to be made over a metal frame. Now it says an ABS backer.

1981-87 Fullsize Chevy Truck Silverado Vinyl Dash Pad Kit

This is the description of the Silverado dash pad for $ 590 bucks...

This is a reproduction vinyl dash pad of the original GM product. It was manufactured using a metal structure which is then covered in a foam and wrapped in a vinyl material. Our dash pads are died at a manufacturing level in house to the original GM colors. The black dash pad is wrapped in the black vinyl. Along with this kit you will receive two defrost vents to the color of the dash and 6 clips and the vinyl dash pad will be equipped with the brushed aluminum molding, Silverado emblem, two AC vent outlets and housings.

Re: 87 dash pad

Anthony at Cheyenne parts is great. I picked mine up from him last year at c10s in the park but my dad has purchased stuff from the company since the 1980s. His reasoning with them now being ABS backed was something about them floating better on plastic than metal. I know I am SUPER pleased with mine it dropped right in with no trimming at all.

Re: 87 dash pad

I need to post some pictures of mine as well. I really feel Cheyenne is as good or better than anything out there. They are all I will use.

"Just recently" Meaning was it still metal backed. Have they changed over to another material?

Really? Near the windshield it looks all wavy?
Nothing beats an original GM dashpad, I was lucky enough to pick up a perfect one recently for $200.

Let me clarify that those pictures are with it just sitting in place. I was still test fitting and cleaning up some dash wiring. The ‘waves’ are not there now. That was because I didn’t have it all the way in on the drivers side due to the dash speaker fitment.

I believe niped’s dash pad was still the metal frame. Cheyenne is no longer making their dashes on the metal frame. They have switched to the ABS backer.
