Proper way to seal 4x4 shifter.

Apparently the boot has a plate and there is another plate. Min is just sitting on the hole and i'm getting alot of fumes coming in. Is there a seal or something or just bolt the sucker down?

in the LMC catalog, there is a block-type thing that is supposed to go under the shift boot. my truck doesnt have anything like that, though...probably thrown away years ago. I never really had a problem with fumes, though...do you have an exhaust leak?

No leak that I can hear. Exhaust / headers are right in that general area.
