Deluxe Hotwave wiring
I just picked up a 66 and it has the device hotwave. The way it looks to me is you have a coolant line running in the hotwave and another running out to circulate the hot antifreeze then just a fan on a switch to blow over the coil.
Currently the coolant lines are disconnected/bypassed and there is only 1 wire running from the fan switch on the dash to the top of the hotwave. To me it seems I should have at least 2 wires running to the hotwave either a neutral or ground? I cannot find any info on the hotwave and i cannot access the hotwave to verify wiring, does the front middle "cover" pop off to expose wiring? Mine doesnt seem to want to budge and i dont want to force it unless I know for sure it comes off. Thanks |

Re: Deluxe Hotwave wiring
I have never heard of a hotwave and google didn't turn up anything for me that applied to automotive. Do you have a pic?

I think your just talking about the heater? In that case the only wire to the fan is the orange one that runs to the fan underneath the heaterbox. The fan is grounded to the box. I think the heater hoses are bypassed because the heater core is leaking.

Re: Deluxe Hotwave wiring
If it's what I think it is a Hotwave is an old heater, has a triangle on the front of it, probably a door on each side of the face. Old style, most likely a retro-fit.

Re: Deluxe Hotwave wiring
Yeah that is it. It looks like I can hook up the coolant lines under the hood both pipes are stubbed through. I just need to get the wiring figured out so I can get power to the fan.

Re: Deluxe Hotwave wiring
Like Babyblue said it will be one positive wire and the motor will ground to the body. You'd think being in a 66 it would be 12v. Downside to those heaters is they don't draw fresh air into the vehicle. The upside though is you don't have that big ugly deluxe heater on the engine side of the firewall crowding out the engine compartment. I pulled my deluxe in favor of the recirculating model in the cab. It will seldom get used but I need a working defroster here to pass government safety inspections.

Re: Deluxe Hotwave wiring
I got mine from another member here quite a while ago. I rebuilt it and put it in a box somewhere, awaiting the return of my truck from the paint shop where it's been for months. There are screws around the perimeter but I'm not sure how easy it would be to take it apart while still in the truck. It's a pretty simple job to remove the whole unit though and you could clean it up and get the heater core checked out.

Re: Deluxe Hotwave wiring
It's mounted to the firewall so there should be bolts on the engine side to remove it from the firewall. You can then discover how it's taken apart.
