X pipe or no X pipe
Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone is running an x pipe exhaust set up on their trucks? I have a trailing arm set up and would like to keep the exhaust between the frame rails. If anyone is successfully running something like this some pictures of your set up would be fantastic.

I had the exhaust shop add in an H pipe just south of the collectors. This mellowed the sound quite a bit...made it sound a bit more tame...smoother somehow. Hth, -klb

X pipes are tough to add especially if you are trying to keep the exhaust tucked up. I went with an H-pipe as well and it sounds great.
What is your reason for wanting the X-pipe, sound or performance? |

Magnaflow makes a complete exhaust system with an x-pipe for these trucks. You can at least look it up to help determine where you want to place yours at.

I took the magnaflow 2.5 X pipe off....To much drone.

I've read of folks that installed the "X" pipes, for whatever reason. Took them off install "H" pipe, made exhaust easier on ears...

I have an H-pipe on the 2.5" exhaust with Spintech 6000 series mufflers on my GMC and it sounds amazing! I added the H-pipe when I replaced the Magnaflow mufflers I had because it was too quiet on a truck with a healthy 383. Now it is basically perfect, aggressive at idle and WOT, but mild at 2,000 RPM cruise with no drone.
Now, on my LS3 powered 67 Tempest, I went with a full 3" exhaust with the same series 6000 Spintech mufflers and an X-pipe and dear Lord is it a whole other story! It is insanely loud and has a terrible drone from 1,200 to 1,900 RPM, but smooths out to a tolerable level at an 80 MPH cruise at 2,500 RPM. Just don't try to drive around in 6th gear at 55, it will blur your vision! I realize there are a lot of different variables between the two vehicles but an X-pipe can make an exhaust louder and maybe even raspier. |
