yet another oil pressure thread
6.0 swap into my 59. I tapped the "block off plate" above the oil filter to put a sending unit in. I primed the engine. then I started it. zero oil pressure. another thread before was i had a fuel injector issue dumping fuel. soaked the oil so i changed it. still no oil pressure. verified my gauge, even put a mechanical gauge into the block off port. with the block off port open i can crank the starter and get a little flow of oil coming out, when i put the gauge back in and start the motor the needle doesnt even move at all. thinking pickup tube oring since the pan was changed just throwing me for a loop that it doesnt have at least a few psi when i know cranking the starter some oil comes out.
Is there somewhere else i can install the mechanical gauge to verify before i start ripping into the engine? ive watched a million videos so if assuming oil pickup o-ring or the pump. anything else that would cause zero oil pressure?

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
did you drill all the way thru the blockoff plate?...dumb question I know but i had to ask..
you can use the original oil pressure sender location behind the intake...you'll need a metric to npt adapter...but this is where I hook all my oil pressure senders

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
I definitely drilled all the way through and the hole is roughly the same size as the hole in the adapter on the mechanical gauge. I can’t imagine that if it has pressure at all it wouldn’t show up there.

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
I've seen people use that for the oil pressure, so I know it works...cant imagine why it's not working for you...

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
Doesn’t seem to be any noise. Pulled the pan today will put in a new pick up o ring and see where it takes me. Had a green o ring in it.

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
Has the engine been opened up since it was last ran? I've read about(no first-hand experience) two things that could kill the oil pressure. There's a small oil gallery block-off plug inside the front cover. If missing, there will be absolutely no oil pressure. There's also something called a "barbell" in the back of the block. If missing, the pressure is supposedly very low.

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
Pan is “clean” didn’t see any metal shavings or flakes. Think the only thing that has been off is the pan to swap to a pan that will clear the crossmember. I didn’t do the framework or install the engine but looks like the only thing changed was pan and pickup tube. I have a new pickup tube o ring and pan gasket on order. The thing that struck me as odd was the small gasket that is on the back left side of the oil pan with the 2 holes in it was not there. That do it? Cause zero pressure? Just crazy cause it’s filling the filter so it’s pumping something just both the pass where I put the oil pressure sending unit.

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
I ordered a new one that has this. Looking at the flow diagram of the oil in that engine should take care of it.

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
That goes into the oil filter so if gasket wasnt there then the oil pressure will blow back into the pan

Re: yet another oil pressure thread
I believe a new pan gasket with the two-hole gasket included fixed the issue for OP
