Difference between 8cyl and 6cyl factory tach??
The factory tach I just bought has 8cyl stamped on the back of the housing. Will it read correctly on a 292 6cyl??

Aftermarket tachs have a slide switch on the back: 6 Cyl or 8 Cyl; or 4-6-8, depending.

The 6 cyl tach will count 6 fires of the coil and think the rotor has completed one revolution then there is 2 to go.
you will need a 6 cyl tach if you want to keep it factory |

See if you can dial it in to the correct rpm using the set up screw inside the tach head ... pictures shows a hole.. yours may still have a sticker covering it. Just get another tach meter that reads correctly to dial it in.
I just put tach cluster on the rad cradle.. hook a set of tach wires to it and ground the cluster to the chassis. Run the truck, set the rpm, then install correctly.

Deuce,
I had PM'd you the instructions back on 6-10-04 in regards to the tach. It looks like you have not read the PM yet. Jim |
