Elec Choke Question
Hi, which terminal on the fusebox or power source is good to connect your elec choke on. Most of my terminals and fuse locations are full. Also what shuts off the elec choke? Is there something built into the unit itself, the Edelbrock carb manual does not mention anything in it, (just curious) thanks in advance Doug Carb is a 1406

You want to hook the choke up to something that has power while the engine is running. An electric choke is tempurature sensitive. When the engine is cold, the little coil inside keeps the choke closed. As the engine runs, electricity slowly heats up the coil and opens the choke, so you have to have power to it the whole time the engine is running or it will close back up.

there should be an empty male spade terminal in middle of fuse block which is labeled 'IGN" test it with test light, should be hot while key is in run pos. only. there is nothing that shuts choke off, it stasy on all the time.

BTW, use at least a 14 gage wire

I used the old yellow ign wire that use to go to the Pos side of the coil. It's on when it needs to be. I ran a new wire to the HEI I installed.

I think I would pick another wire that is the resistor wire you will not have a full 12V to the choke.

I believe the yellow only has power when the ignition is in the start position, not in the normal run position. When you start wiring for new items, it's time to start thinking about relays. I have my torque converter lockup, hei, and electric choke all run from a relay under the dash, instead of running full power through the ignition switch to those constant power items. I ran a 12 ga power from the distribution block on the driver side through the bulkhead connector to the relay and aux fuse block under the dash.
