What year did gm switch the front diff. to the driver's side?

GMT400 series started in 1988 with ifs front suspension.

Yep. The last GMs with solid axle/passenger side differential were the '91 R/V series. So Blazer/Jimmy, Suburban, and Crewcab 2500s and 3500s
