Re: 427 Tall Deck
Too many variables to figure, but guessing 400 horse and 550 torque. Really depends on heads, compression, and cam.
If you find Comp Cams website, they have a free desktop dyno that you can download and can give you a rough idea. Now you need to remember when "building" a motor using this, it's in a perfect world, so actual numbers will very....

Re: 427 Tall Deck
Heres the combo for a killer td 427
1. +400 k longer rods 2. 454 pistons (3 ring) 3. +1/8 stroke 454 crank 4. Melling towing cam i think its mtc-1 this will make a stump pulling 496" engine at .030 over and more cam will go higher rpms. 8 k isnt a problem with right engine setup reliable..... I have one now thats 632 cu. Inch, 5/8" stroker crank, 6.800 long rods and lots more $$$$$$$

Re: 427 Tall Deck
I know this is bringing back an old thread, but Im building a budget 489 stroker out of a 1972 427 td. Engine is all assembled, .030 overbore, 4.250 cast SCAT crank, 6.385 rods, .050 decked block, custom machined HP426C speedpro pistons, 7400 Vortec Heads with adjustable Comp Cams Roller Rockers, and a Comp engineer suggested Marine grind cam that should produce Peak Torque around 2600 RPM with the 9.75:1 static compression ratio and pull 17Hg/in vacuum. Im using the stock intake as well, however I'm having a heck of a time with what to do with the large opening below the thermostat housing. In the previous pics, how did you adapt the stock bbc bypass hose to fit the larger opening??? Last piece to the puzzle to buttoning all this up. Any suggestions or additional pics??? Thanks in advance!

Re: 427 Tall Deck
When I put a 427 TD in my 74 3/4 ton I cut off most of the spout sticking out the front of the intake then smooothed out the inside with a die grinder and found a freeze plug that fit inside the hole left in the intake. I then drilled a hole in the freeze plug and welded in a regular heater hose nipple then drove in the freeze plug with some pipe sealant on it. I know it sounds kind of like a hack job but it worked great for my low budget build. I can take some pictures of it if you are interested in seeing it.

Re: 427 Tall Deck
That would be great!.... i did purchase a stock 427td for a 72 c60, and that could work too, but the radiator inlet is very large compared to the stocker, plus i have an electric waterpump for a bbc that we use on our run stand at school....so your idea is very appealing.... thanks in advance!

Here is my intake that I cut off bypass and put in a freeze plug with a nipple welded into it.
