It might be worth it to get the rusty spots media or even sand blasted, to stop the corrosion process. I took mine to my work about 10 years ago, and sanded down all the rust spots, then sanded the rest of the vehicle slightly and sprayed it with cheap black paint, to help preserve it. I did not have rust issues like yours, and the trim had already been removed by me when I bought it in 1980, it WAS trash!

When you decide to rebuild that carb, or find a Chevy Q-Jet, let me know, Q-Jets are NOT all the same!!!
