Stainless windshield moldings
Just wanted to show the difference between the two different styles of reproduction windshield moldings, the early version has the deep flange, and the late version has the short flange. The gaskets are also different, so be sure you have the correct one in and before you start. Thank you Grumpy old man for straightening me out on this.

Re: Stainless windshield moldings
There are 2 types of windshield trim and seals they fit in . The deep and the short . The short mouldings are terrible to work with . Just order the early trim set and matching seals .
If your planning on polishing your stainless trim and re using it polish it BEFORE you remove the old windshield . http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=765868

Re: Stainless windshield moldings
Are you saying the '71-'72 repro moldings have the correct flange, because the original molding I have here is from a '72.

Re: Stainless windshield moldings
Thanks for that info, a little research shows that GMC may have gone to the short style in 1970, with Chevy following in 1971. How that molding ended up on a '72 is a mystery at this point. We'll see what we can dig up here, I have the deep gasket.

I have a glass guy ( Rob w/30 years experience ) coming today to replace my windshield which currently has the stainless trim. He is providing the gasket that accepts the trim. Neither of us know whether my trim is original or aftermarket ( deep or shallow ). This is going to be an adventure! -klb

If you need to buy trim find some original stuff. The aftermarket trim doesn't fit very good and makes it almost impossible to install the windshield.. LockDoc

Turns out my '67 has the late trim, the glass guy has never seen anything but the early trim and can't get anything but the deep gasket! Just ordered Chevy 71-72 Deluxe/Custom gasket from LMC as I think that's what I need based on this thread. Thanks guys. -klb

Got my '72 gasket today, LMC part# 38-5912. It does appear to have a shallower channel for the trim pieces. -klb

@ "mouldings". Just kidding, it's the tech name right. I wonder why GM took the British spelling? I'll bet Fords don't have this problem, they at least knew where to mount a distributor. GM couldn't even get their engine badges right
