Re: Alternator Pulley wrong size
I'll check to see if I have a spare. For what it's worth I ran one of my 292s with the "newer" setup with the belt misaligned and never had issues. Matter of fact when I got my 66 it was like that with a stock type externally regulated alternator which I assumed was changed out at some point. Had the same pulley posted in the picture of the new alternator and I just tighten down the belt and left it. Ran for years until I pulled the motor for a hotter 6. Then when I got my 64 chevy I saw that the L6 had that spaced out pulley and thought so that's what is wrong! Pulled the pulley from that motor(truck was for parts) and now it is on my new engine and things line up nicely. That setup shouldn't be super hard to find, best thing would be to find a Complete 230-250-292 with that setup and steal the pulley.

Re: Alternator Pulley wrong size
From the DPOWERS pic it appears to line up quite good with a NO extension pulley .... And no offense to jdl71 but the belt alignment in his pic in your other post about brackets is terrible if you ask me

Re: Alternator Pulley wrong size
Okay closing out my old thread (hopefully) with some info that will be helpful if anyone else ever encounters this. I just ordered a repop pulley off ebay for $26 (had a coupon though to make it cheaper). You can find it searching for GM# 3829193. I'll add a pic of things when I get my engine buttoned up.

Re: Alternator Pulley wrong size
If you have the old alternator just switch the pulleys

Re: Alternator Pulley wrong size
yeah I didn't have the old alternator, this is what came with my truck when I bought it and it never lined up.
The part I bought on eBay looks like it's going to work. It is funny having a shiny new pulley on an old looking alternator, but I think the spacing is going to be right. It's a lot better than having those washers crammed in there.

Re: Alternator Pulley wrong size
Got a new wider pulley for the alternator.
Solved the issue.

Re: Alternator Pulley wrong size
I learned another thing today. The angle of the v groove. I'm sure this may be obvious info for some, but I'm still learning.
