Oil Bath Air cleaner
I was hoping someone could help to identify what year and which engine this air cleaner assembly is for.
Thank you

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
Looks just like the one on my 53 Chevrolet 3100. Yours fits a 1 barrel rochester.
On top of the air cleaner there should be a nipple to accept a hose from the pcv. It was used to bring crancase vapors into the air cleaner to be burned. It was one of the first california clean air provisions hitting the auto industry in the fifties. Also missing the clamp at the base to secure it to the carb. air horn.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
And, you'll be able to narrow it down by googling the PN on that AC decal.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
Measure the air horn to be sure it looks like a six cylinder rochester 1bbl carb but may be wrong because pictures tells lies. Looks like 66 v8 2bbl too
Picture from LMC truck

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
Prior to '61 there was no PCV system, they had road draft tubes. We made a mint retrofitting PCV systems when I worked at a shop, because they all had to be done, here in California. That air cleaner is at least made in '61 or later.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
This is the set up on my Los Angeles built 235 in '62. The crankcase ventilator has a hose that goes straight into the manifold. Nothing into the air cleaner at all. To me, your unit looks earlier by design.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
It looks different than the one on my 65 230.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
That setup might be because it's an oil bath air cleaner, so it wouldn't have an attachment on the air cleaner housing. Is the oil filler cap a breather type with a bunch of mesh inside? I think that's what it looks like.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
Yes, mesh inside the oil filler cap on mine, which twists on with a quarter turn. I believe the OP's air cleaner is an oil bath type as well, hence the embossed oil level in the bowl. No?

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
Doesn't the decal say it's from a 66 283?

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
I have actually been looking for an oil bath air cleaner for my 66 1/2 ton with the 292 inline 6, and power brakes. I have added a NOS power brake booster unit and the GM installation sheet requires that an oil bath cleaner be installed. Because the regular flat paper type cleaner will not fit on the carb with the brake booster. Here is a copy of the installation sheet showing the oil bath cleaner. Granted it is only a picture drawing, but look carefully it does show a part number and the brace that attaches the cleaner to the engine head by way of a bracket. Also note that it shows the hole on top for the breather hose. Do you have the bracket shown in the installation sheet?

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
My 66 250 did not have that brace.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
I had a '65 K10, 292, 4 spd, manual brake, Suburban. The oil bath air cleaner appeared to be original. It looks like the Classic v6 GMC's photo and like Chtr65 Installation Sheet drawings. The rubber hose in the intake goes to the PCV valve in the rocker cover. No hoses into the a/cl.

Re: Oil Bath Air cleaner
Don't think so, I believe RPO 417 was one of the first PCV on trucks back in 1953, agree though that air cleaner looks like the one on my 1962 261 inline 6 engine, and yes it does have an attachment tube on the air cleaner. I believe I still have it if the OP wants it for his. Will ad this air cleaner with the nipple on the air bath cover did come from a 2 ton truck.
