Finicky Fuel Fill

Mine is a 1975 C10.
It has been a pain in the butt to fill the tank since I bought it. At least here in California with the Fuel Pumps (SMOG Crap) with the recovery hose. We were in Arizona for a while and no problem with filling.
Any of you guys have a repair or solution? I would rather not relocate the Filler Tube but if needed that may be an option.
Thanks in advance
Steve

Re: Finicky Fuel Fill

I always just had to hold the nozzle sideways when filling my '78. That helped keep it from kicking off.

Re: Finicky Fuel Fill

There are several different filler necks.
I found a 86 Chevy with a 6.2 diesel.
The filler neck was opened (with no emission crap)
also the hose was bigger.
I used the tank and filler neck on that truck.
It made the fill-up easy.
You may want to look for this set-up if your emission will allow it.
Here is a link below , I found for the filler neck.
I don't know if you could adapt this to your current tank ,
Because the inlet tube on the tank is probably smaller. Hope this helps.

Re: Finicky Fuel Fill

Thanks guys! I have been trying to keep the Pump Nozzle slanted and that helps a little. Still doesn't fill like the earlier type, I could actually set it on full and walk away when in Arizona.
I'll have to contact Eckler's and find out about that Filler Neck. Bummer is that I ordered 2 new tanks before we started our winter travels to get out of the snow and surely can't return them now.
